Numb3rs

Hits Daily Double is a website that builds a sales chart with the sales numbers that the retailers report. The charts are built Monday and Tuesday. While the numbers are not totally accurate, they do tend to mirror the official Soundscan numbers and rankings fairly closely.

Soundscan is a sales source that tracks sales data for singles, albums, and music videos for Billboard, music channel companies and other music industry companies. It reports sales numbers on Wednesday.

From the Soundscan website:

Nielsen SoundScan is an information system that tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada. Sales data from point-of-sale cash registers is collected weekly from over 14,000 retail, mass merchant and non-traditional (on-line stores, venues, etc.) outlets. Weekly data is compiled and made available every Wednesday. Nielsen SoundScan is the sales source for the Billboard music charts.

ATDW: 211,234 (#2)

Note: No Song impacting radio before the release date.

I knew this was the place to come to see all the numbers come together. Thnx for providing not only the two-day updates but also the reasons behind the numbers.

Here's hoping good ole word of mouth works because that seems to be a major part of RCA's plan.
